Lucy and I visited Mackinac island in Michigan for a week in October 2024. It was a great vacation. However, there was one concern.
The concern was food, because Lucy is vegan.
Northern Michigan is known to have very limited vegan options.
However there was no need to worry. We were pleasantly surprised to find some decent vegan options on the island.
We stayed the island for a week and tried so many vegan foods. We want to share what we found in case it would be helpful for other visitors.
Restaurants
Here is the list of restaurants we visited. Because of the limited options, we ate at some restaurants multiple times.
Kingston Kitchen, Jamaican restaurant
1384 Hoban St, Mackinac Island, MI 49757
Kingston Kitchen is a Jamaican restaurant on Hoban street. We ate here several times during our stay. Here are the foods Lucy tried:

Vegan Belgium Chocolate Cheesecake:
Small but rich, not too sweet and served with berries.
Cool runnings salad, no cheese to make it vegan:
Lucy said It was the best salad she has ever had in her life. Great combination of ingredients. Fresh greens, rice and beans, crunchy cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips with the most fun ingredient of ackee, avocado, walnuts, and Jerk olive oil dressing that was so flavorful. Ask for no cheese to make it vegan.
Black been burger no cheese:
Nice black bean burger including ackee.

Cloghaun Bed and Breakfast
7504 Market St, Mackinac Island, MI 49757
Lucy and I stayed in a bed and breakfast on the island that offered vegan breakfast. Lucy contacted in advance and requested vegan options. The place was very helpful. They specially made Lucy’s breakfast each morning which was separated from the buffet meal that everyone else ate because there are no vegan options on their usual buffet.
Every morning, they made a different vegan meal for Lucy. There was oatmeal, chia pudding, cooked cabbage, sweet potatoes, hash brown potatoes, fried plantains, pumpkin bread.
They also offer lots of fruit, vegan crackers, lemonade, and herbal tea.
